  • Newly appointed in 2009, Councilman Akins filled a vacant seat for Ward 3. Elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2013.

Councilman Akins serves on the Finance Committee since 2009 and the Youth Council Committee since 2010.

Mr. Akins’ civic involvement includes the Ohio Municipal League (OML), the Northeast Ohio City Council Association (NOCCA), and the National League of Cities (NLC).

Mr. Akins graduated from Bedford High School and attended Kent State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA); both from the University of Phoenix.

Mr. Akins served a four-year tour of duty in the United States Navy on the USS George Washington CVN-73 and received awards, including a Navy Unit Commendation Medal, NATO Service Ribbon, and Letter of Commendation. While in Israel and in France, he participated in Habitat for Humanity Projects.

Mr. Akins is married and has five children.
