Oakwood & Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women – 16 Days of Activism

According to the World Health Organization, one in three women worldwide has experienced some form of physical and/or sexual violence. The Ohio Domestic Violence Network reports that intimate partner fatalities occurred in 36 of Ohio’s 88 counties between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. Cuyahoga County accounted for 20 deaths, second only to Franklin County with 33. These are troubling numbers. However, we have the power to change them. We can make a significant difference with increased awareness, education, and, most importantly, community involvement.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism and in support of Zonta Club of Cleveland and the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign, which runs from November 25 through December 10, the Village of Oakwood will project an orange light on Village Hall from December 9-10th to bring awareness to this critical issue. The Village also encourages its residents to participate.

Together with its member clubs, Zonta International is dedicated to creating a better world for women and girls. It envisions a world where women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman can achieve her full potential. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence. Sign ups for senior driveway plowing has begun. ALL SIGN UP MUST TAKE PLACE AT OAKWWOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT, between the hours of 8AM to 3PM, from November 3rd to the 14th and Saturday November 15th from 9am to Noon. Late Sign Ups after November 15th require a $20 Fee. There are no applications accepted after November 25th.

The Service Dept. is Located at 26018 Broadway Ave. Oakwood Village Ohio 44146.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE ROUNDS THROUGH THE VILLLAGE GENERALLY UNTIL THE BEGINING OF DECEMBER. WE TYPICALLY COMPLETE THE ENTIRE VILLAGE ONCE A WEEK.

The Passing of Mayor Gary Gottschalk

The Village of Oakwood is saddened to announce that it’s beloved long-time Mayor Gary Gottschalk passed away on September 12, 2025. Mayor Gottschalk worked tirelessly to improve the Village and will be sorely missed. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced on the Village website. Please keep Mayor Gottschalk and his family in your thoughts.

The Village of Oakwood Mourns the Passing of Mayor Gary Gottschalk

The Oakwood Village Council and Administration are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved long-time Mayor, Gary Gottschalk, on September 12, 2025. Mayor Gottschalk dedicated his life to serving our community with tireless commitment, vision, and love for Oakwood Village. His leadership and devotion will be profoundly missed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gottschalk family and ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Funeral Arrangements
Services for Mayor Gottschalk will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion. Following the service, a procession will travel northbound on Broadway Avenue past the Village Hall, turn onto Tryon Road to Richmond Road, continue northbound past his home, and proceed to Hillcrest Cemetery on Aurora Road in Bedford Heights.
