• Newly appointed in 2009, Councilman Akins filled a vacant seat for Ward 3.
• Oakwood resident 21 years

Mr. Akins' civic involvement includes the Ohio Municipal League (OML), the Northeast Ohio City Council Association (NOCCA), and the National League of Cities (NLC).

Mr. Akins graduated from Bedford High School and attended Kent State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA); both from the University of Phoenix.

Mr. Akins served a four-year tour of duty in the United States Navy on the USS George Washington CVN-73 and received awards, including a Navy Unit Commendation Medal, NATO Service Ribbon, and Letter of Commendation. While in Israel and in France, he participated in Habitat for Humanity Projects.

Mr. Akins attends Abundant Grace Fellowship and has served as the Preschool Ministry Leader alongside his wife for the past 3 years. He has also assisted his Pastor in arranging weekly bible study gatherings for a group called H.I.P. (Husbands in Prayer).

Mr. Akins has been married for 9 years and has three children.
